General Notes: "At the battle of Invercharron (Carbisdale), in Ross-shire, 27th April, 1650, the standard bore the picture of the headless corpse of Charles, with the motto 'Judge and revenge my cause '. It is a matter of history how Montrose's army was put to rout by Colonel Strachan. When all appeared to be lost, Menzies was urged by Montrose and others to save himself by flight, but he refused, and met his untimely fate on the field.
