  Research Notes:

JEAN? OR ELSPETH?

The sources available usually call the Strachan of Thornton daughter who married Graham of Morphie "Jean", yet the Testamentary index has her as Elspeth.

This is more remarkable because, again, sources refer to the Strachan of Thornton daughter who married Andrew Arbuthnot of Pitcarles as "Elizabeth".

It's unusual to have an Elizabeth and an Elspeth in the same family. Elspeth might have had two names, Elspeth and Jean. Or perhaps all of the daughters were named Elizabeth plus one other name.

Jean married Sir Harry GRAHAM of Morphie, son of Robert GRAHAM of Morphie in the Mearns and Giles DOUGLAS. (Sir Harry GRAHAM of Morphie was born about 1528 and died before 23 February 1614 3.)
