She is described by one writer as 'ane preceise puritan,' but this seems hardly consistent with the fact stated by her father-in-law, John, Earl of Perth, that she had spent several years at the Court of France, where she was highly esteemed, and that she 'was of a lively spirit and naturally disposed for every exercise both of body and mind.'
