"Alexander Elphinstone of Barnis, his son and successor, married, in 1645, his cousin, Lilias Elphinstone, the only surviving daughter of Alexander, fifth Lord Elphinstone, and became sixth Lord Elphinstone. Their issue carried on the main line of Lords Elphinstone of Elphinstone." 2
