"Margaret Sibbald my mother was daughter to Mr David Sibbald of Kair & Jean Auchmouty Daughter to Sir David Auchmouty of that ilk.

Harie Guthrie was son to Gideon Guthrie of Halkertoun and Agnes Junking daughter to Balbirnie.

Gideon my Grandfather, who being a man of a mind above his fortune and engaging first to be a Captain in the Kings forces, afterward meddling too far in public matters, so burdened the estate that after he had insisted that his son Harie my father conform to contract of marriage with my Mother in twenty eight Chalders of Victuall, he so far prevailed with his complying son that to extricat him out of his difcultys, his son condescended and joined with the father in selling the lands of Halkertoun, the Wadsett of Tullows, and Minnores & Craichhad Mill, and not only so but burdened very much the portion he got with my mother which was 10000 merks."
