Alexander married Margaret BOYD, daughter of Thomas BOYD Master of Boyd, created Earl of Arran and Mary STEWART.1 2 (Margaret BOYD was born about 1470 and died after 9 February 1515 3.)

"Alexander (Forbes), fourth Lord Forbes. On 5 July 1483 Alexander, Lord Forbes, son and heir of William, Lord Forbes, was ordained to pay to Margaret, Lady Dirleton, 2000 merks, being the double of the casualty of his marriage, for his failing to marry Margaret Ker, Lady Dirleton's daughter."

"He married Margaret Boyd, only daughter of Thomas, Earl of Arran, and niece of King James III. She was married, secondly, about 9 August 1509, to David, Earl of Cassillis."

"Grizel or Margaret (Boyd). She is called Grizel in the pedigrees, but appears as Margaret in the Registers of the Great Seal, and in the Papal Dispensation, etc. She was born between 1468 and 1473, and was married, first, to Alexander, fourth Lord Forbes, who died s.p. before 16 May 1491 ; secondly, as second wife, before 9 August 1509, to David (Kennedy), third Lord Kennedy, then created Earl of Cassillis, who died s.p. by her, at Flodden, 9 September 1513."
