In the civil birth record (see above) transcribed and made available by the Irish Family History Foundation it was recorded that Michael McConachy was born in Portadown civil parish County Armagh on 11 July 1868. His parents were John McConachy and Ann Gilpin. The address for the child or family given was Drumnagoone. John McConachy father of the child was recorded as a weaver. The informant was Catherine McConachy. A note added was 'present at birth [ Inf 1]', presumably referring to Catherine McConachy, then 'F. M. Brown deputy regtr', presumably the signature of the registrar.

A Michael McConnachie was recorded in the 1891 census, aged 25 years, Irish born, and living at 40 Omoa Square Cleland. He was described as a boarder with Peter and Ellen Lynch and family. His occupation was quarry labourer. It is very likely that that Michael McConnachie and this are one and the same.

Michael and Sarah McConnochie were living right beside Charles Vallely and his household at Windyedge Farm, on the Hareshaw Road near Cleland, as recorded by the 1901 census. Michael, head of the household, was recorded as 29 years of age and had been born in Ireland. He worked as a coal miner.

Michael's daughter Mary Jane was born in 1903. In her birth certificate Michael was recorded as 'Michael McConnachie coal miner'. The certificate also recorded the parents had been married on 31 December 1898 in the West District of Shotts.

Michael was recorded as aged 46 years when he died in 1917. He had been a coal miner. He was predeceased by his wife Sarah. 1 4 5 7 8 9

  Research Notes:

EMIGRANT

It may be that Michael came to Scotland late in the 19th century, and that his parents were never there.

  Medical Notes:

The causes of Michael's death were certified by George Hugh Logan MB ChB.

Alex Lavery, Michael's brother in law, registered his death before John McFarlane at Cleland on April 28 1917.

Michael married Sarah LAFFERTY, daughter of John LAFFERTY and Mary Jane McKENNA, on 30 December 1898 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Sarah LAFFERTY was born in 1875 in Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 2 10 and died before 28 April 1917 6.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Patrick Hackett was the celebrant. The witnesses were Henry McConaghy and Lizzie Lafferty.

Michael McConaghy was a coal miner, recorded as aged 27, resident at Windyedge in the West District of Shotts. He was unmarried.

Sarah Lafferty was a brickfield worker and unmarried. She was 23 years of age and lived at Parkside, Cleland in the West District of Shotts.

The marriage was registered at Cleland on 31 December 1898, William Spence being the registrar. 2
