  General Notes:

Sarah Lavery was aged 5 years when recorded by the 1881 census. She had been born in the parish of Shotts where she was living.

In 1901 Sarah McConnochie was recorded by the census for Shotts parish living at Windyedge Farm in Cleland Lanarkshire. She had two children to care for: a daughter 2 years of age and a son 2 months old. Sarah herself had been born in Shotts parish and was recorded as 25 years of age.

It was Sarah Lafferty who gave notice of her daughter Mary Jane's birth in 1903. She gave notice to the registrar, William McGill, at Cleland on 2 December 1903. 1 3


Sarah married Michael McCONACHY in Cleland, son of John McCONAGHY in Drumnagoon and Anne GILPIN, on 30 December 1898 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Michael McCONACHY in Cleland was born on 11 July 1868 in Drumnagoon, Portadown district, County Armagh, Ireland 9 and died 28 April 1917 at 2.00 pm in 46 Omoa Road, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland 10.). The cause of his death was chronic bronchitis and asthma.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Patrick Hackett was the celebrant. The witnesses were Henry McConaghy and Lizzie Lafferty.

Michael McConaghy was a coal miner, recorded as aged 27, resident at Windyedge in the West District of Shotts. He was unmarried.

Sarah Lafferty was a brickfield worker and unmarried. She was 23 years of age and lived at Parkside, Cleland in the West District of Shotts. Her parents, John Lafferty, a coal miner, and Mary Jane McKenna were living.

The marriage was registered at Cleland on 31 December 1898, William Spence being the registrar. 2
