The census of 1871 recorded Samuel Marrow as head of the household living at 67 Johnston Street Airdrie in the parish of New Monkland. The household comprised Samuel Marrow, his wife Jane, his mother in law Mary, and an Irish born visitor Margaret Kain, a widow aged 76 years. Samuel was recorded as aged 33 and born in Ireland. He worked as a roadsman. ²
