Alice McConville was recorded by the 1881 census living with her family at 2 Lothian Street Carnwath Lanarkshire. Like her husband Alice was Irish born and she was aged 35. ¹

Alice married John McCONVIL, son of Francis McCONVIL and Elizabeth O'HARE, on 26 November 1863 in Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (John McCONVIL was born in 1843 in Rathfriland, County Down, Ireland ¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The presiding priest was Mortimer Cassidy, RC Clergyman Carluke, and the witnesses were Catherine Maclean and Matilda Kirk.

John McConvil, who made his X mark, was a pithead labourer and unmarried. He was recorded as 22 and resident at Highwood Carnwath. His father was deceased.

Alice Hughes also made her X mark. She was a farm servant and unmarried. Her recorded age was 21 and her place of residence was also Highwood Carnwath.

The marriage was registered at Carluke on November 26 1863, John Fraser being the signing registrar.
