James was a steel worker when he married in 1909, and lived at 17 Stone Row, Calderbank.




When his son Owen was born in November 1909, James was the informant of his birth. he gave his occupation as "steel worker", and the date and place of his marriage as "1909 February 11th Holytown".




Mary, James's daughter, was born in 1913, and James was the informant of the birth before the registrar at Holytown, James Paterson, on 12 May 1913. In the birth certificate, James's occupation was recorded as "steelworker".




In 1915 James, who had been present where his daughter was born, was the informant of his daughter, Catherine's birth. He gave notice at Holytown before the registrar, Gil Hamilton, on 19 April 1915. His occupation was that of steelworker.




His daughter, Sarah, was born in 1917, and Jim was the informant of her birth at Holytown, before the registrar Gil Hamilton on 14 September 1917. His occupation this time was recorded as "steel smelter".




James was again the informant before the registrar, Gil Hamilton, at Holytown on 14 March 1919, five days after his son, John, was born. James was present where the child's birth occurred. He was recorded again as a steel smelter by occupation.




When his wife died in 1931, James was recorded in her death certificate as a steel worker, and was still living at that time.




James Gollogly was recorded as a steel worker in his daughter Mary's marriage cerificate of 1933 and in that of Sarah in 1938. He was recorded as a steelwork labourer in 1945 in his daughter Margaret's marriage lines.




James died in 1948. His death certificate recorded him as a retired steel worker of 71 years of age. He was the widower of Margaret McGunnigal. Both of his parents were dead. 1 2 5 6 7

J. Gollogly, son of the deceased man, of 17 St Christian's Road, Cheylesmore, Warwickshire, gave notice of his father's death before the registrar, Arnold E. Watt, at Holytown on 16 April 1948. 4


James married Margaret McGUNNIGAL, daughter of James McGUNNIGAL and Mary ROURKE, on 11 February 1909 in St Aloysius RC Church, Chapelhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Margaret McGUNNIGAL was born 9 September 1881 at 6.30 pm in Clarkston, New Monkland Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 8, baptised on 26 October 1881 in St Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland 9 and died 24 December 1931 at 4.20 am in Victoria Place, Bellside, Chapelhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland 10.). The cause of her death was influenza lasting 1 day and cardiac failure.4


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place, after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrating priest was Father Donald A. McPherson. The witnesses to the marriage were James Myles and Sarah O'Rorke.

Maggie was an unmarried woman aged 27 years, of Main Street, Chapelhall. She worked as a domestic servant. Her father had died when Maggie was a small child and her mother had remarried.

James was a bachelor of 30 years, of 17 Stone Row, Calderbank, and was a steel worker. Like Maggie, his father was dead and his mother still alive.

The marriage was registered on 23 February 1909, the registrar being Gilbert Hamilton. 1
