   Cause of her death was scarlet fever over ten days.

   Other names for Mary were VALALEY, Mary Ann,² VALLOLY, Mary Ann ³ and VALLY, Mary Ann.⁴

When Mary Ann Valaley was born in April 1857 her father Edward was the informant of her birth before the registrar Wm. Paterson at Shotts on 27 April 1857 and made his X mark.

In the index of Roman Catholic baptisms where Mary Anne's baptism was recorded her date of birth is noted as 17 April 1857.

In 1861 the census for New Monkland recorded Mary Ann Valley living with her family at 2 South Row. Mary Ann was the second eldest of the four children recorded and was aged 4 years. She had been born in Shotts parish.

A neighbour, Ann Costelly, informed the registrar, John Macarthur, at New Monkland on 13 January 1863 of Mary Ann's death. She made her X mark.
