The 1881 census for Galston recorded an Anne McNamara as the eldest child in the household of her parents Patrick and Catherine McNamara. This person has all the attributes of Agnes McNamara born 6 April 1861. She was aged 19 years (the census was taken on 3/4 April 1881), and born in Galston. The census recorded her as unmarried and a worsted weaver. Since no Anne McNamara was born in the specified period of time in Galston, we must assume that the young woman was called Anne rather than her birth name or the enumerator was mistaken. ¹
