In 1881 Johan Hardie was recorded by the census for Saint Nicholas registration district in Aberdeen living with her son Frederick at 7 Rennies Wynd. Frederick was 13 years old and was a scholar. His birthplace was Aberdeen Saint Nicholas.

When Frederick William Hardie died in 1923 he was recorded as a master of his trade. His death certificate recorded him as married to Mary Ann Christie Gill, and as aged 55 years. Only his deceased mother's name was recorded: Johan Jaculinn Hardie, who had been a laundress by occupation.
