Frederick's birth certificate recorded him as illegitimate.

In 1881 Johan Hardie was recorded by the census for Saint Nicholas registration district in Aberdeen living with her son Frederick at 7 Rennies Wynd. Frederick was 13 years old and was a scholar. His birthplace was Aberdeen Saint Nicholas.


Fredk W. Hardie, son and inmate, who had been present where his mother, Johan Hardie, died, gave notice of her death before the registrar on 16 April 1888.


The 1901 census for Aberdeen Rosemount recorded Frederick W. Hardie as head of a household living at 28 Bonnymuir Place. The household consisted on himself and his wife, his two small children, his father in law, James Gill, and a 19 year old female domestic servant called Isabella P. Taylor. Frederick was recorded as a photographer, born in Aberdeen, and aged 33 years.

When Frederick William Hardie died in 1923 he was recorded as a master of his trade. His death certificate recorded him as married to Mary Ann Christie Gill, and as aged 55 years. His death took place in 3 Albyn Place, but his usual residence was noted as 13 Forest Avenue Aberdeen. Only his deceased mother's name was recorded: Johan Jaculinn Hardie, who had been a laundress by occupation.

Frederick Hardie died suddeny from a pulmonary embolism after undergoing a posterior gastro enterostomy on 6 July 1923.

Sidney Fred Hardie, of 13 Forest Avenue, Aberdeen, the deceased man's son, gave notice of his death before the registrar on 17 July 1923.
