DOWNIE, Mary 1
General Notes:
In 1810 a woman Mary Downie was a sponsor at the baptism of Nancy, lawful daughter of Edward 'Muckledownie' and Nancy Drips, by Fr William Rattray in St Mirin's, Paisley. The second sponsor was John Murray.
On 28 March 1824 Michael, son of Michael Crawly and Mary Docherty was baptised at St Ninian's parish Paisley. The sponsors were Edward Downey and Mary Downey.
In 1841 the census for Paisley High recorded a Patrick Downie and a Mary Downie living at 61 Canal Street, Paisley. They may have been husband and wife, or they may have been brother and sister - the 1841 census does not reveal which. Patrick was recorded as being in the 45 to 49 years age range and his occupation was that of hand loom weaver. His birthplace was Ireland. Mary Downie was also born in Ireland and was in the 35-39 years age range. No occupation was noted for her.(Another Mary Downie was recorded in the 1841 census living in Incle Street Paisley with three young people probably her children, Edward, Patrick, and Agness. The father of three children of that name was a Patrick Downie and his wife was Mary too.) 1
Research Notes:
RELATIVES
Mary may be the sister of Edward Downie or his daughter.
It is possible Mary died at an earlyish age - possibly too why her brother Patrick was with her in 1841 although he had a wife and children nearby. 1
