NEER, Benjamin
Other names for Benjamin were NEER, Benjamin F, NEER, Benjamin Frank, NEER, Benjamine and NEER, Fraenk. General Notes: In 1880 US Census, Benjamin seems to have had two entries. One recorded 'Benjamin F. Neer' in the same 'household' possibly as his brothers William and Abram - at Deer Island, Columbia County, Oregon, where he was a worker in a saw mill. His marital status was given as 'S' single, his age as 28 years and his birthplace as Iowa. Both of his parents were born in Germany. The other entry recorded a 'Benjamine Neer' living with his wife Sarah Jane and two children, in Union, Columbia County, Oregon. His marital status was 'M'; he was aged 28 years, and his birthplace was recorded as Illinois. His occupation was that of 'laborer'. Both of his parents were recorded as born in Germany. It seems very likely that the information in the second entry quoted was given by his wife Sarah J. who made a mistake about his birth state. As for the sawmill, every single entry beside Benjamin's recorded the men as either single or divorced. Benjamin married Sarah Jane QUIGLEY, daughter of Arthur QUIGLY and Jane THOMSON, on 24 December 1875 in Mess House, St Helen's Mill Company, Columbia County, Oregon, USA.1 (Sarah Jane QUIGLEY was born in November 1856 in Lewis River, Washington Territory, USA.)
