  General Notes:

The 1871 census for Hamilton recorded Catherine Feely, their oldest child, living with her parents and siblings at 3 James Street. Born in Ireland, Catherine had no occupation recorded against her name.

Michael's wife Catherine Feely applied for relief to the Parish of Govan Combination in November 1879 on the grounds of his desertion of her. He was described by her then as aged 30 years, a labourer, and born in Ireland. Catherine stated that he had deserted her and their children five months earlier and that she had not heard of him since.

In the death certificate of 1884 of his wife Catherine, Michael McNeill was recorded as being a quay labourer. ^{2 3}

Michael married Catherine FEELY, daughter of Robert FEELY and Mary GRIMES, in May 1874 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Catherine FEELY was born in County Armagh, Ireland ³, baptised on 3 January 1855 in Shankill RC parish, County Armagh, Ireland ⁴ and died 13 December 1884 at 11.00 am in 20 Church Street, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland ⁵.). The cause of her death was dropsy over 14 days.

  Marriage Notes:

Catherine gave this information to the assistant inspector who interviewed her when she applied for parish relief in 1879. However, he noted after writing this information that the 'lines' (marriage certificate) had not been seen by him- a dry way of indicating his opinion that the couple were not officially married.

To date no marriage has been found in Scottish records between this couple.
