  General Notes:

In 1861 William Sherry, his wife, and four children, were recorded living at Carmyle in the Western District of Old Monkland parish. Gregory Early, listed as a boarder and in fact married to Mary Feely, sister of Ann Sherry, was also recorded there. He was a coal miner, aged 28 years and born in Ireland.

In the 1871 census for Hamilton Gregery [sic] Early was recorded living in the household of his brother in law, William Sherry, at 11 Low Patrick Street, with his wife and three children. Gregery was recorded as 36 years of age and worked as a coal miner. He was born in Ireland.

Gregory Early was the head of a household recorded by the 1881 census for Hamilton living at 3 New Wynd. With him lived his wife and four children, a nephew James Feely, and a boarder John Ferguson who was a tailor aged 48 years, was widowed, and had been born in Motherwell. Gregory was a coal miner who had been born in Ireland. He was recorded as 41 years of age.

NOTE
At the time of their marriage in 1859 the difference in the ages of Gregory and his wife was 6 years. In the 1881 census here it is 2 years. 1 2 6


Gregory married Mary FEELY, daughter of Robert FEELY and Rose MAGOWN, on 6 June 1859 in St Mary's RC Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Mary FEELY was born in 1839 in County Armagh, Ireland 1 and was baptised on 2 March 1839 in Seagoe RC parish, County Armagh, Ireland 7.)


  Marriage Notes:

James McCafferty, CC, celebrated the marriage according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The witnesses were William Chambers and Rose Gerraham.

Gregory Airly was a 25 year old bachelor of Castle Street, Hamilton. He was a labourer at Malleable iron Works. Both of his parents were already deceased.

Mary Feely was aged 19 years and was unmarried. She was a tambourer and resided at Castle Street, Hamilton. Her mother was alive but her father was dead.

The marriage was registered at Hamilton on 7 June 1859, William Dickson being the signing registrar.
