At the time of the birth of his son James in 188, James McKay senior was recorded as a journeyman grocer. He had been present where the birth occurred and gave notice of it before the registrar at Dalbeattie on 19 December 1888.

James MacKay was an insurance agent in 1916, according to the marriage certificate of his son James. 1 2


James married Elizabeth WHYTE on 7 October 1886 in Dalbeattie Parish, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.1 (Elizabeth WHYTE was born about 1860 and died after 13 September 1916 2.)
