Mary married James GEORGE, son of John GEORGE and Susan WHATTERS, on 1 August 1862 in Gatehead, Kilmaurs, Ayrshire, Scotland.¹ (James GEORGE was born in 1841 in Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland ^{2 3 4 5 6} and died on 22 April 1918 ⁷.)

  Marriage Notes:

The banns were read and the rites and forms observed of the Reformed Presbyterian Church. The minister was Thomas Ramage, the Reformed Presbyterian minister of Kilmarnock. Thomas Cuthbert and Mary Armstrong were witnesses.

The groom was a single man, aged 19 and a coal miner. His father John George was already deceased and survived by his wife Susan Whatters.

Both the groom and the bride were of Gatehead, Kilmaurs.

Mary Ann Aitken was an unmarried woman of 22. No occupation was given for her. Her parents were both dead. She made her X mark in the register.

The marriage was registered on August 4 1862 at Kilmaurs, Thomas Hamilton being registrar. ¹
