After conviction at the Lancaster Quarter Session and sentenced to seven years 'beyond the seas', Bridgett O'Brian was transported aboard the vessel Roslin Castle, leaving on 17 February 1830 with 127 other convicts and arriving in New South Wales on 17 October 1830.


The 1831 record for Bridget O' Brien in the New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books, 1818-1930 describes her as being of four feet eleven and a half inches in height, of stout build and fair complexion. her hair was dark and her eyes were 'hazle'. 1 2

Bridget married James QUIGLEY, son of Peter QUIGLY and Mary O'HARA, 24 January 1831(permission granted). (James QUIGLEY was born about 1812.)

Register of Convicts' Application to Marry

A request was made for permission to marry on the part of Bridget O'Brien and James Quigley, and this permission was granted on the 24 January 1831.

It was noted that James Quigley had come free to Australia on the vessel City of Edinburgh. Bridget O'Brien, in bond, had come to Australia to serve a seven year sentence, aboard the vessel Roslin Castle. Both parties were recorded as being 21 years of age.
