The marriage was celebrated according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. James Reid, minister of Borthwick, married the couple. The witnesses were Thomas Adams and David Adams.

John McLure was 24 years old and resident at Hayfield. He was a labourer and single. His parents, John McLure, a farmer, and Ann Luke, were living.

Ann Adams also resided at Hayfield. She too was single and was 21 years of age. No occupation was noted. She made her X mark.
