User ID: M540. George married Christian LESLIE, daughter of George LESLIE Earl of Rothes and Christian HALIBURTON, 20 May 1478(obligation).1 2 (Christian LESLIE was born about 1460.) Marriage Notes: "George Leslie married, first, Lady Christian Leslie, daughter of George, first Earl of Rothes, as is shown by an obligation, dated 20th May 1478, whereby George Leslie of that Ilk, acknowledging the great kindness which the Earl of Rothes had shown to him, in upholding him at great expense, from his childhood till he was twentyone years of age, and had paid great sums of money for his marriage with Lady Christian Leslie, daughter of the said Earl of Rothes, therefore he bound himself not to sell or wadsett any of his lands, or any that he was heir to, and that he would not alienate any part of his lands from the heir to be procreate betwixt him and the said Lady Christina Leslie. By this marriage George Leslie had issue" George next married Violet MIDDLETON, daughter of Laurence MIDDLETON of that Ilk and Nicolas STRATON, 24 November 1497(charter).2 3 (Violet MIDDLETON was born about 1460 and died before 26 October 1505 3.) Marriage Notes: "Violet, described as 'daughter to the Laird of Middleton in the Mearns, and widow of Thainstoun.' She was apparently the Violet Middleton married, as his second wife, to George Leslie of that Ilk. They had a Crown charter, on 24 November 1497, of half the lands of Edingareoch. She died before 26 October 1505." George next married Margaret FRASER, daughter of Sir Andrew FRASER of Stoneywood and Muriel SUTHERLAND, before November 1505.2 (Margaret FRASER was born about 1472.) Marriage Notes: "George Leslie married, thirdly, Margaret Fraser, daughter of the Baron of Muchals. King James IV. confirmed a charter to George Leslie of that Ilk, and Margaret Fraser his spouse, of eight mercates of the lands of Chapeltoune in the lordship of the Garioch, 26th October 1505. By Margaret Fraser George Leslie had issue" |
