General Notes: In 1871 the census for Crichton, Midlothian, recorded John Adams as head of a household living at Tynebank, Turnie Dykes, with his wife and family. As well as his wife, there were six others living in the household: five were his children and the sixth was a 'relative' named Mary Adams. John Adams was the third eldest of the children recorded in the entry. His birthplace was noted as Borthwick, and he was 10 years old and a scholar. |
