  General Notes:

(at Bellie in 1607)

"William Sanders, brother of John S., min. of Nairn, M.A.; min. in 1607. On 24th April 1627 he was censured by the Presb.'for making ane pennie brydell within Strathbogie to his dochter-in-law, at quilk were present excommunicate papists to the grieff of all honest Christians.' He was pres. to Glass, by George, Marquess of Huntly, in 1643, and to Skeiralloway on 3rd Dec. that year. He stated to the Presb. that he would have intimated the subscribing of the Covenant, but was prevented from doing so, his pulpit being surrounded by armed men who refused access for preaching until the Marquess had arrived. He petitioned Parliament that 'having a mean benefice from which he had received little for eight years,' he might be relieved payment of 300 merks laid on him by the public. This was granted 18th July 1649 and he was recommended by the Assembly to the commissioners for plantation; dem. 25th March 1663; died in the first week of Sept.1672. His age has been given as 108, but he was probably only a little over 90. If, however (as Dr Hew Scott says), he had been seventy-seven years a min. (which is not authenticated), he could not have been less than 100 years."
