"1644, April. - Alexander Gordon of Cufurrach and James Gordon there, raided the house at Auchnagat, belonging to Alexander Strachan of Glenkindie, the Covenanter. I can not verify my reference ('Acts of Parliament') to his appearance in this affair, which is referred to by Spalding ('Troubles,' ii. 342), who says: Thair wes pairteis send doun to Banff and to Buchane, nuhair Auchnagat, perteining to the Laird of Glenkindie, his girnellis, his goodes and ground wes pitifullie plunderit; his brother Patrick Strathauchin of Kynnadie, plunderit and spolzeit his bigging, victuall and all, syne took himself prissoner and had him to Kellie, quhair he remanit vpone his awin expenssis."

Note: Assuming that Alexander Gordon was the son of John Gordon and Janet Harper, and James Gordon was the son of Robert Gordon, then the two were cousins.
Presumably Alexander died young, since Bulloch, referring to the Balbithan mentioning 'succession', says, in Gordons of Cairnfield, '(which I have quite failed to trace)'.
James Gordon, later 4th of Cairnfield, seems to have taken over the designation 'of Cuffurach'-or a variant of it- for a time after this period. 1
