  General Notes:

There appears to be some dissension among authorities about who the mother of Elizabeth Leslie was. So much so that on one page of Cracroftspeerage her mother is listed as Grizel Hamilton and on another as Janet Durie. This is exceptional in an otherwise excellent site.

The deciding factor is likely to be the date when she was born and its relation to the date when she was married. Grizel Hamilton was a first wife and Janet Durie a third, marrying about forty years after the first marriage took place.

Elizabeth married David WEMYSS apparent of Wemyss, son of Sir John WEMYSS of that Ilk, Admiral of the Forth and Mary STEWART, February 1608(contract).^{1 2} (David WEMYSS apparent of Wemyss was born about 1582 and died August 1608(dvp) ^{2 4}.)

"Lady Elizabeth Leslie, married, first, to David, son and heir-apparent of Sir John Wemyss of Wemyss, without issue .... "

"David Wemyss, the eldest son, in whose favour his father, in 1605, resigned all his lands, which were regranted to the son. In February 1608 he was contracted, and soon after married to Elizabeth Leslie, daughter of Andrew, Earl of Rothes .... but he died a few months later in August 1608, without issue."

Elizabeth next married James OGILVY 2nd Lord Deskford, Earl of Findlater, son of Sir Walter OGILVY Lord Ogilvy of Deskford and Mary DOUGLAS, 17 February 1610(contract).³ (James OGILVY 2nd Lord Deskford, Earl of Findlater was born about 1586 and died in 1652 ³.)
