"GEORGE GRANT, born Strathspey, 1700, son of Alexander G.; educated at King's College, Aberdeen;M.A. (9th April 1718); recommended for a bursary by the Synod 25th Oct. 1720; licen. by Presb. of Dalkeith 6th Oct. 1724; app. missionary at Glenlivet 11th Nov. same year; was called to Alvie 28th June, and to this parish jure devoluto 31st Aug.
1725; the Presb. preferring the latter, he was ord. 21st Sept. following; died at Duthil Manse, 27th April 1772. He marr. 7th March 1727, Anne (predeceased him), daugh. of James Chapman, min. of Cromdale, and had issue Anne, born 14th March 1729 (marr. Patrick Grant, min. of Nigg); Margaret, born 1732 (marr. John Grant, farmer, Polnicol, Kilmuir Easter), died 2nd Oct. 1810; James, min. of Inverness; Lewis, min. of Duthil; Alexander, min. of Daviot (Inverness); and eighteen other children of whom five died in early youth. In his obituary, George Grant in 1772 was said to have been 79 years old at his death. This suggests a date of 1692 or 1693 for his birth. 2


George married Anne CHAPMAN, daughter of Reverend Mr James CHAPMAN Minister of Cromdale and Anna CUTHBERT, on 7 March 1727 in Cromdale and Inverallan parish, Moray, Scotland. (Anne CHAPMAN was baptised on 5 April 1710 in Cromdale and Inverallan parish, Moray, Scotland 1.)
