Alexander married Anne HOWARD, daughter of Sir Charles HOWARD 1st Earl of Nottingham, Lord High Admiral of England and Margaret STEWART, on 29 December 1627 in Chelsea, London, England.1 (Anne HOWARD was born about 1612 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Alexander (Stewart), Lord Garlies, who died vita patris in 1638. He married, first, at Chelsea, on 29 December 1627 (he aged eighteen and she fifteen), Anne, daughter of Charles Howard, Earl of Nottingham, and his wife Margaret Stewart, daughter of James Stewart ' the bonnie Earl o' Murray.' By her he had no issue."

Alexander next married Margaret GRAHAM, daughter of William GRAHAM Earl of Airth and Menteith and Agnes GRAY, in 1633.2 (Margaret GRAHAM was born about 1616.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Margaret (Graham), married in 1633, to Alexander Lord Garlies, and had issue. Said to have been married, secondly, in October 1643, to Ludovic, fourteenth Earl of Crawford, who died without succession. Their son Henry Lindsay, alias Andrew Gray or Graym, attended the Scots College at Douay in 1657, but was dismissed on account of illegitimacy."
