"Thomas Brodie son of John Brodie in Peebles and Helen Nisbet daughter of Thomas Nisbet, grieve to Mr Laidlaw in the farm of Horsbrugh Castle, compeared this day before the session and produced marriage lines dated Edinburgh 18 December 1817 and signed Robert Crawford minister. They acknowledge themselves married, were rebuked for irregularity, and exhorted, and their marriage was ordered to be recorded" 3
