In the 1841 census, Neilston parish, John was recorded with his wife and family. He was aged 35-39 years, was a smith journeyman, and was born in Ireland.

The 1851 census recorded John Tweedle, his wife Mary, and their seven children living in Barrhead Renfrewshire. He was a hammersmith, aged 50 years and had been born in Ireland.

In 1865 John Tweedley was recorded as a gardener by occupation.

John Tweedle (sic) was recorded by the 1871 census for Eastwood living at the home of his son in law John Brackenridge at 71 King Street. He was noted as 70 years of age and born in Londonderry, Ireland. He was a retired gardener. 3 4 5 6

"Alexander Irvine married, in 1590, Lady Marion Douglas, daughter of Robert, Earl of Buchan. Her father and mother being dead, the Earl of Morton acted as the lady's guardian, and for this service to his ward received from her husband in 1605 the stipulated sum of 10,000 merks."
