The 1851 census for Clarkston in the parish of New Monkland, Lanarkshire, recorded an 'Edward Rice' aged 6 years lodging in a McElroy family at 5 Clark Land, Edinburgh Road. Edward was born in County Armagh, Ireland, and his parents were recorded as Patrick and Cathrine Rice.
Note: Rice is/was apparently a variation of Rocks as a surname. 3


Edward married Mary McKINNAN, daughter of Charles McKENNA and Margaret McINALLY.1 2 (Mary McKINNAN was born about 1837 in Ireland 4.)
