  General Notes:

In a 1915 document in the British Army Records James McIver was recorded as being a member of the Army Veterinary Corps. His place of residence was noted as 30 Marshall Street Glasgow and his date of marriage to Margaret Russell as 8 July 1902.

James died before Margaret. He was recorded in her death certificate as a 'general dealer' and he was a well known figure in Glasgow. 2 3


James married Margaret RUSSELL, daughter of Unknown and Margaret Selanders RUSSELL, on 8 Jul 1902 in 21 Abbotsford Place, Glasgow, Scotland.1 2 (Margaret RUSSELL was born 27 November 1880 at 0.30 am in Church Lane, Loudoun, Ayrshire, Scotland 5 and died 31 May 1958 at 3.05 am in 138 Blairbeth Road, Burnside, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6.). The cause of her death was anaemia and myocarditis.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was performed after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Robert K. Monteath, minister of Hutchesontown parish, married the couple. The witnesses were John MacLean, who made his X mark, and Susan Begley.

James McIver was a fruit dealer by occupation. He was unmarried and aged 21 years. His address was noted as 60 Rose Street, South Glasgow. Both of his parents were deceased.

Margaret Russell was a fish hawker. She too was unmarried and was aged 21 years. Her address was 80 Rose Street, South Glasgow. Her mother was recorded as "Margaret Selanders. Her father was recorded as a labourer, and deceased. (see note below)

The marriage was registered on 9 July 1902 at Glasgow, the registrar being John Brown.

Note: Margaret Russell's parents names were recorded as Thomas Russell and Margaret Selanders in this marriage certificate. Other sources demonstrate conclusively that this was not an accurate statement. 1

James next married Margaret RUSSELL, daughter of Unknown and Margaret Selanders RUSSELL, on 12 Mar 1858 in Jordanlaw, Westruther, Berwickshire, Scotland. The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland. The minister of Westruther, Henry Taylor, presided. The witnesses were James Brydon and Isable Anderson.

Hugh Curran, who made his X mark, was an unmarried man of 19 years of age. Resident at Muircleugh in the parish of Lauder, he worked as a labourer. His parents were deceased.

Rebecca Adams was also 19 years old and unmarried. She was resident in Jordanlaw in the parish of Westruther. She was a domestic servant by occupation, and made her X mark. Her mother, Sarah, was recorded as deceased.

The marriage was registered in Westruther on 12 March 1858, the registrar being James Wilson. 7
