  General Notes:

The 1855 birth of "Agnes Vallany" was registered by Francis Vallany her father, who made his X mark. he had been present where the birth occurred at Gordon Street, Newton, in the burgh of Ayr. In the certificate he was recorded as a "Hawker formerly Land Labourer", aged 37 years, and had been born in the "parish of Kilanney County Lowth". He and his wife, "Catherine Vallany maiden name Hardy" were married in 1843 in Newton Stewart Galloway. They had "4 boys deceased, 1 girl & 1 boy living". So Agnes, the daughter whose birth Francis was registering, was his wife's seventh child.

Francis was recorded as 54 years old in his death certifiecate of 1887. He was a hawker married to Catherine Hardy. No parents' name were recorded. 6 7

KILLANY

The townland where Francis was born, referred to in the birth certificate of his daughter Agnes, is likely to be Killanny. It bestrides the County Louth and County Monaghan border, to the east of the N2, south east of Carrickmacross. 8


Francis married Catherine HARDY on 30 Jul 1843 in Our Lady and St Ninian RC Church, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, Scotland.1 (Catherine HARDY was born about 1823 in New Luce, Wigtownshire, Scotland 7 9 and died after 12 Jul 1887 6.)


Francis next married Charles HARRIS, son of Charles HARRIS and Marion HOOD.2 (Charles HARRIS was born on 4 Nov 1863 in Tradeston parish, Glasgow, Scotland 10 11 and died 6 January 1864 at 5.00 am in 45 King Street, Glasgow, Scotland 10.). The cause of his death was pertussis.6
