He had been born in County Armagh, Ireland and was aged 26. he had married in Hamilton in 1854. John married Helen VALLELY, daughter of John VALLELY and Mary ROCKS, on 8 Oct 1853 in St Mary's RC Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Helen VALLELY was born about 1831 in County Tyrone, Ireland and died 9 September 1868 at 2.30 pm in Watson's Square, Newarthill, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of her death was consumption over some years. Marriage Notes: The proclamation of banns for this marriage were recorded in the IGI as having been on 2 October 1853 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. John next married James VALLELY, son of John VALLELY and Agnes DEVLIN, on 17 Nov 1757 in Old Machar parish, Aberdeen, Scotland.
