The child's father, John Vallely, notified the registrar at Holytown, William Richard, on 22 December 1862, and made his X mark.

James married Agnes DEVLIN, daughter of Bernard DEVLIN and Mary DOLACHAN, on 1 Sep 1796. (Agnes DEVLIN was born about 1832-1836 in Banbridge, County Down, Ireland ^{3 4} and died on 18 Nov 1868 in Carfin, Bothwell Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ⁴.). The cause of her death was bronchitis over some years.
