Jean Gordon who dyed unmarried, and the youngest Mary Gordon; all these save Jean yet live."

from Balbithan MS

"Gordon, James, of Letterfourie
Son of John Gordon of Letterfourie and his first wife Janet Seton. Married in 1696 Glicerie, daughter of Sir James Dunbar, 2nd Baronet of Durn and had four sons and three daughters. He died in 1748, aged 88."

from Jacobites of 1715

Note:
James Gordon's age at death noted here is surely a gross overestimate, not unusual then or now when documents are not available for consultation. The
Balbithan MS and then Dr Stephen Ree in Coclarachie in volume 1 of House of Gordon state that James Gordon of Letterfourie's mother was a daughter of Alexander Gordon 2nd of Auchintoul (his brother George 1st of Auchintoul having remained unmarried till death). Alexander's eldest son was born in 1669, and even allowing for only the birth of daughters before him, it is unlikely a daughter of Alexander was born in the mid 1640s or earlier, as would be necessary to be a mother of a son born in 1660.
It may be merely a typographical or a transcription error, though Playfair in British Baronetage says he was 87 years old at death.
