Richard married Ann Jane LYNESS, daughter of Richard LYNESS and Margaret CROMBIE, in 1899. (Ann Jane LYNESS was born on 5 May 1859 in Union Street, Calton, Glasgow, Scotland ^{4 5}.)

Richard next married James SMITH, son of George SMITH and Isabella McKENNA.¹ (James SMITH was born on 16 Aug 1864 in Bridgeton, Glasgow, Scotland ⁶ and died after 22 Sep 1902.)
