LYNESS, Mary 1

  • Born: 28 Dec 1855, Ann Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow, Scotland 2 3
  • Died: After Jan 1899

Other names for Mary were LYNAS, Mary and LYNES, Mary.

  General Notes:

Mary's father's application for parish relief in March 1868 described her as aged 12 years then.

Mary's mother applied for poor relief in 1871 at Glasgow, and Mary was recorded as aged 15 years at that time. She was a millworker earning 5/6d a week.

In the 1891 census Mary was recorded as unmarried, aged 32 years and an employed mill worker winder.

In 1895 Richard Lyness junior married Mary Dillon. One of the witnesses was called Mary Lyness and it may have been this woman.

When a further application was made, possibly in January 1899, Mary was still single and worked as a winder in Paul's Barrowfield Street, earning 5/- or 6/- a week there. She was aged 44 years. 4 5 6
