The 1871 census recorded Edward, aged 17 years, living with his brothers and widowed mother in Langloan, Coatbridge at Back Row, Smellie's Land. He was a collier, and had been born in Old Monkland parish. ¹

Edward married Peter QUIGGLEY, son of Peter QUIGGLEY and Catharine CHRISTIE. (Peter QUIGGLEY was christened on 14 Mar 1819 in Balfron, Stirlingshire, Scotland.)
