McKINNAN, Sarah 1
General Notes: The 1861 census for Kilmarnock Ayrshire recorded Sarah Marshall and her six children living in her mother's household at 19 Fore Street. Sarah was a widow whose occupation was 'flowerer'. Her birthplace was Kilmarnock and she was recorded as 45 years old. One of the children was Sarah McKinnan, born in Kilmarnock and aged 8 years. She was listed as the granddaughter of Agnes Marshall, the head of the household. 1 Sarah married McDONALD in 1562.2 (McDONALD was born about 1815.) Marriage Notes: "Patrick Maule of Panmure was born at Pitcur in March 1548. He was at school at Kettins, Dundee, and Montrose, where he stayed till he was fourteen, at which mature age he was married and went to live with his father. After the death of the latter he found the estates in very bad order; some of them had been sold and the others were heavily mortgaged, while the house itself was in a very dilapidated condition. This he rebuilt, and would have done much more for the estates if he had had time and money. But he did not hold them long, dying only five years after his father, on 1 May 1605. He married Margaret, daughter of Sir John Erskine of Dun, the superintendent of Angus. She died 1599, leaving issue" |
