The 1851 census for Kilmarnock Ayrshire recorded WilliamMcNarnie, a scholar, living with his mother, a widow, and his three siblings. He was recorded as 6 years of age and born in Kilmarnock.

When William McInerney died in 1899 his usual residence was recorded as Muirkirk, Ayrshire. He was a single man when he died. He had worked as a shoemaker. ^{2 3}

William married Patrick BARCLAY, son of Reverend Alexander BARCLAY Minister of Peterhead and Margaret BURNET, after Nov 1640.^{4 5} (Patrick BARCLAY was born about 1678.)
