The 1891 census for Hamilton, Lanarkshire, recorded Mrs Mary Quigley, aged 39 years and born in Hamilton, living at Grammar School Square with her children James, William and Mary.

In the 1901 census a Mrs Mary Quigley, widow, was recorded living at 124 Muir Street Hamilton. She was the head of the household, aged 48 years, and was a charwoman worker.

Her mother, also a widow, Jane Connor aged 82 years, identifies her as this Mary Connor. The two women shared their home with Sarah, Mary's daughter, and a grandson William. The family had two rooms that were windowed.

Mary's married son James lived very close by with his family. ^{5 6}

Mary married John QUIGLEY, son of Constantine QUIGLEY and Sally CAREY, on 31 May 1869 in Roman Catholic Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (John QUIGLEY was born on 30 Apr 1848 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland, christened on 2 May 1848 in St Mary's RC Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland ⁷ and died before 5 Apr 1891 ^{3 4 5}.)

Fr James Danaher married the couple according to the rites of the Roman Catholic Church. The witnesses were Daniel Niel and Martha Murphy.

John was a bachelor of 21 yeard who worked as a labourer. His address was noted as No 91 Quarry Street, Hamilton.

Mary was also unmarried and aged 18 years. She was a factory worker of Shillinghill, Hamilton.

The marriage was registered at Hamilton on 4 June 1869, A. McMillan registrar. ²
