The sponsors at John's baptism in 1818 were Nancy Kelly and John Rowan. The priest was Andrew Scott.

John was recorded by the 1851 census living at Morton's Land, Langland Street in Kilmarnock parish. He was aged 31 years and was married with a baby daughter. He was a tailor by trade.

The 1860 US Census for the 3rd Ward of Boston in Suffolk County in the State of Massachusetts recorded John Quigley, a tailor by trade, aged 34 years living there with his daughter Rosanna and son John, both born in Scotland and aged 10 years and 6 years, and two more son, Edward aged 4 years, and James aged 2 years, both born in Pennsylvania. There was also a 69 year old woman, born in Ireland, called Margaret Rogers, living in the household.

John was aged 45 years as recorded in his mother's Parish Relief Application of 1863.

In 1870 the US Census recorded John Quigley with his wife, Ellen, and family living in Boston Ward 3, Suffolk, Massachusetts. John was a tailor and born in Scotland, and his age was recorded as 43 years. There were six children listed, the first three aged from 16 years to 12 years, and the last three years from 4 years to 1 year. John's daughter Rosanna was not listed.

The 1880 US Census for Boston, Massachusetts listed a John Quigley in the City Prison, House of Industry. He was a white married male recorded as aged 62 years. His birth place was Scotland and his occupation tailor. His father and mother had been born in Ireland. This matches the John Quigley of this record well. 2 3 4

This man is probably the man who emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts, towards the end of the 1840s and is included in the 1860 and 1870 US census as a tailor.


John married Sarah CLANCY. (Sarah CLANCY was born about 1822 in Ireland.)


John next married Edward QUIGLEY, son of Edward QUIGLEY and Rose KELLY.1 (Edward QUIGLEY was born on 3 Apr 1821 5, christened on 8 Apr 1821 in St Mirin's RC Chapel, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland 5 and died 8 November 1896 at 10.45.am in 145 Crown Street, Glasgow G1, Scotland.). The cause of his death was uraemia and urethral obstruction.
