The 1841 census for Hardgate Street, Haddington, recorded a Francis Nisbet aged in the 70-74 years age range, whose occupation was 'flesher'. He had been born in East Lothian. He was recorded living with James Nisbet, aged in the 30-34 years range and a skinner journeyman by occupation, and William, aged in the 25-29 years range and a tailor journeyman by occupation. From sources other than this census, we know that these two young men were sons by a second wife, Elizabeth Gordon.

Francis married Euphemia THOMSON on 18 Oct 1800 in Canongate, Edinburgh, Scotland. (Euphemia THOMSON was born about 1775 and died between 1802 and 1806.)
