  General Notes:

John's father Martin notified the registrar on 14 December 1864 of John's birth and made his X mark in the register.

John Quigley was aged 16 years when recorded by the 1881 census for Abbey parish Paisley. He was unmarried and worked as a dyer. His birthplace was Paisley.

According to one of his descendants, John was killed in the Boer War serving with the Paisley militia. 5

John married Mary DOCHERTY in 1891 in St Mirin's RC Chapel, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. (Mary DOCHERTY was born about 1865 and died after 1902.)


  Marriage Notes:

According to a descendant of this family, John and Mary Quigley had six children: John, Annie, Martin, Bridget who was the grandmother of the informant, Mary and Agnes.

John next married William STRACHAN, son of William STRACHAN farmer in Robslaw and Marjorie LEITH.1 2 (William STRACHAN was christened on 5 Apr 1730 in Old Machar Parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.)
