VALLELY, Catherine 1
Another name for Catherine was HALT, Cathrine.4 General Notes: The 1841 census for Springburn near Glasgow recorded Cathrine Halt and a young baby, Mary Jane, also surnamed Halt, living in the household of Francis and Jane Vallaley. She was probably Catherine Vallely, their daughter, married in 1838 to James Holt. Cathrine Halt's age was in the 20-24 years range and she had been born in Ireland. 4 Catherine married James HOLT on 20 Oct 1838 in Gorbals Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (James HOLT was born about 1810.) Catherine next married Elisabeth QUIGLY, daughter of Peter QUIGLEY and Mary Ann AIRLEY.2 3 (Elisabeth QUIGLY was born on 15 Feb 1858 in Clyde, Glasgow, Scotland 1.) Marriage Notes: "His (John Gordon's) son John Gordon second Laird of Pitlurge married the Earl of Athols daughter Stuart, with whom he begat a son John Gordon third Laird of Pittlurg; likewise he begat on a Gentlewoman Maitland two natural sons and two daughters viz. William Gordon of Belchirrie and George Gordon of Kindrught ; one daughter married the goodman of New Forbes, another married Menzies Provost of Aberdeen. Their Father the forsaid John Gordon 2d Laird of Pittlurg was killed at the battle of Pinkie anno 1547. [He married secondly Margaret Drummond. It was his son who fell at Pinkie.] " |
