Other names for James were QUGLIE, James,2 QUIGLY, James and TWEEDLEY, James. General Notes: The 1861 census for Balfron recorded James Quglie as 44 years of age, unmarried, and born in Ireland. He was an agricultural labourer. James married Patrick QUIGLY, son of Michael QUIGLEY and Mary McCALLION.3 (Patrick QUIGLY was born about 1820 in Ireland 2 and died 5 December 1862 at 9.30 pm in Burnfoot Gardens, Cardross, Dunbartonshire, Scotland 2.). The cause of his death was inflammation of spinal bone after bone fracture. Marriage Notes: "Alexander Burnet, younger of Leys, is mentioned in many documents of the time. He was, along with his wife, Agnes Lechtoun, put in possession by his grandfather of Collonach and The Hill, in the barony of Leys, of which they had sasine on 5th May, 1501 (Leys Charters). The previous year, on 27th July, 1500, he added to the always accumulating lands held by the Burnets from the monastery of Arbroath, Invercanny and its mill, with half the town of Banchory, with its ferryboat, the tack being for his lifetime and that of Agnes Lechtoun, his wife, the ferme paid for Invercanny being £2, 6s. 8d. ; for the half of Banchory, 13s. 4d. (Reg. Nig. de Arbr., p. 331)." |
