Cause of his death was enlarged prostate, cystitis, haematuria and cardiac failure.5

  General Notes:

The 1881 census for Largs, Ayrshire recorded John Twigley as head of a household which comprised himself, his wife and four children. The family lived at 97 Nelson Street, Largs. John was a mason by occupation and aged 31 years. He had been born in Doune, Stirlingshire.

In 1907 John Twigley was the informant of the death of his son Daniel, aged 16 years. John's occupation was recorded in the death certificate as 'mason'.

John Twigley died in 1914. His death certificate recorded him a mason (journeyman) married to Mary Campbell. His age was recorded as 73 years. Both parents were deceased. The death certificate listed his mother as Cecilia Twigley MS Ramsay, and not Ellen Robertson as was recorded in John's marriage certificate. 4 5 6

  Medical Notes:

Robert Taylor MB ChB certified the causes of death.

Mary Twigley, widow of the deceased who was present where her husband's death occurred, gave notice of his death before Donald Bowie, registrar, at Glasgow on 11 April 1914. 5

John married Mary CAMPBELL on 2 Jun 1871 in Main Street, Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland.1 (Mary CAMPBELL was born about 1852 in Glasgow, Scotland 3 4 and died after 10 Apr 1914 5.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. Charles Watson, minister of the Free Church at Largs, officiated. The witnesses were Mary Dick and Robert Elliott.

John Twigley was a bachelor of 26 years. His address was 66 Surrey Street, Glasgow, and he worked as a marble cutter.

Mary Campbell was a spinster of 20 years of age. She was of Kingston, Glasgow. No occupation for her was noted.

The marriage was registered at Largs on 6 June 1871, David G. Glen being the registrar.

NOTE
The marriage certificate recorded John's mother as 'Ellen Twigley MS Robertson'. John's father was married to Mary Robertson when John was a small child, John's own mother being deceased. Some similar confusion seems to have been around when the information about John was given at the time of his death in 1914.
