SHEVLIN, Michael
General Notes: The 1881 census for Inveresk Edinburghshire (Midlothian) recorded Michael and Jane Shevlin and their five children residing at 43 Second Avenue. Michael was a stoneminer aged 33 years and had been born in Airdrie Lanarkshire. His youngest child Jane was the only one of his children to be born in Inveresk and her age was recorded as 1 year. It follows that the family had only recently come to the area. 2 Michael married Jane VALLELY, daughter of John VALLELY and Rose MACHENDRY. (Jane VALLELY was born about 1849 in Ireland and died on 1 Apr 1891 in Dalserf Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.) Michael next married Jane BRECKENRIDGE, daughter of John BRACKENRIDGE and Janet TWEEDLEY, on 8 Jun 1855 in Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland.1 (Jane BRECKENRIDGE was born on 29 Apr 1874 in Eastwood Parish, Renfrewshire, Scotland.) Marriage Notes: The marriage was solemnised according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of Scotland. J. MacRae Minister of Hawick presided. The witnesses were Robert Anderson, mason, and Margaret Anderson. |
